The Wines
Here at the vineyard we planted our first vines in 2004, dedicating our passion to creating exquisite, hand-crafted wines from Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir grapes. The combination of the local climate and pumice loam soil created by years of volcanic activity work to deliver a unique range of wines that we are exceptionally proud of. We produced our first vintage wines of Pinot Grigio and Blanc de Noir in 2007, and have since extended our range to include an award-winning Methode Traditionelle and a Late-Harvest Pinot Gris Ice Wine.

Kuratau River Wines Pinot Gris 2008

A very welcoming Pinot Gris, this is one to be appreciated served cool. The flavours are very soft delivering to you white pears delicately placed on your palate, and the aromas typically floral. At this lower temperature you will enjoy some delicious caramelised and creme brulee overtones that will excite your taste buds. This one would be great with a crisp salad on a summer day as it’s clean, fresh and unforgettable; but go easy on the dressing so you don’t lose the wine.

Kuratau River Wines Petit Pinot Noir 2008
The Pinot Noir is becoming a New Zealand classic, simply because it’s a wine we do so well. Beautifully balanced, this wine leans towards the “feminine’ style Pinot Noir. The black cherry and ripe black doris plum flavours will explode in your glass whilst the herbs and vanilla excite your nose. This superb wine begs to be partnered with a good steak or venison, but will also work exceptionally well with duck and other game birds.
